DetailsThe Invalides, commissioned by the Sun King to serve as hospital, lodgings, and workshops for the veterans of his many wars, is considered a masterpiece of French classical architecture. The magnificent gilded-dome royal church of St Louis des Invalides holds the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte. Learn about the roles of both Louis XIV and Napoleon in the history of France, and the life and times of the soldiers who resided in the Invalides. This building complex holds the Soldiers’ Church. If desired, you can book an additional time to explore the Army Museum (with or without a private guide) which is dedicated to themes from the French Revolution to the two World Wars, Charles de Gaulle, armor, artillery models and military musical instruments.
