When people hear the word “France” they typically think, “Paris” and it is no wonder that Paris is one of the most well known cities in the world. Between the food, history, art and the landmarks you can take an extended vacation there and never leave the city! There is only one downside to not leaving Paris, which is that France has much more to offer. To attain a fully immersive French experience you have to venture outside of the City of Lights, at least for a day, and our team already have a few ideas for day trips outside of paris.
Just a few hours east of Paris lies the beautiful French region of Champagne. In addition to sipping champagne at one of the many vineyards, there is a ton of history worth checking out. You can tour the Reims Cathedral, where the French Kings and Queens were crowned before the French Revolution. You can also learn about the world-renowned Smiling Angel statue and even have an exclusive opportunity to explore the historical underground Champagne cellars. While you’re there, don’t forget to taste a little for yourself!
Champagne not your thing? That’s okay because just a few hours Southwest of Paris lies Burgundy. The Burgundy region is well known for it’s dry red wines made from Pinot Noir grapes and white wines made with Chardonnay grapes. You’ll have a difficult time deciding what is more incredible: the delicious wine or the magnificent views while tasting that delicious wine.
Easily one of the most romantic places in France, Versailles is home to breathtaking, centuries-old architecture. Created by King Louis XIV in 1682 Versailles remains a historical symbol of the system of absolute monarchy of the Ancien Regine. While you’re there, explore the hometown of Marie Antoinette and tour the stunning interiors and majestic gardens of the Palace of the Sun King. Afterward you can row a boat on the Gran Canal while you watch the sunset.
About an hour’s journey Northeast of Paris, through the gentle Vexin countryside, you will find yourself in Giverny, where Impressionist master Claude Monet lived and worked for more than forty years. In this town you can learn the story of his life and times during which he lived. Be sure to visit his charming home and legendary gardens to see where Monet was known to get his inspiration. Who knows…you could come home with some inspiration of your own.

The Château de Fontainebleau, just 35 miles southeast of central Paris, can proudly claim to have been a sovereign residence for eight centuries. Capétiens, Valois, Bourbons, Bonaparte and Orléans, all members of French ruling dynasties, have lived within these walls. The chateau dates back to 1137—and centuries of royals have expanded this former royal hunting lodge to a more than 1,500-room estate. Most of what you’ll see dates back to the 16th century, a combination of Italian Renaissance art and French design, these rooms are some of the most intricate and breathtaking in France. If times allows, you can enjoy lunch in this charming area.

There are three in my group myself and two adult daughters. We will be in Paris arriving on evening of 21st fLondon via train. We will be in Paris arriving in the late evening on 8/21, all day 8/22, and all day on 8/23 departing that evening as late as possible. What we would like to see : Louis Vuitton store, Eiffel Tower, Versailles, louvre if just for a little bit, Notre Dame. If time permits seeing a performance at Moulan Rouge and whatever else you might suggest.
