Paris is full of many opportunities to meet internationals as well as locals. The American Women’s Group of Paris is the perfect example of this. Originally founded in 1925, the group was created to help locals and visitors connect and explore all that Paris has to offer.
If you are just visiting Paris for a week or planning to start a new life in this beautiful city, this group has a little bit of something for everyone. Every month the group comes together and meets in a local apartment to discuss upcoming events as well as create ideas to help with fundraising. Weekly, ladies can sign up for language exchanges, as well as learn French customs and manners that may be difficult to decipher as a newcomer to the city.
Another great trait about the group is the fact that is full of not just Americans but also French people and many other nationalities. The American Women’s group in Paris welcomes women from all different countries, in fact many French women join the group in order to have an exchange with American women, it’s really the best way to meet a local French person which sometimes can be hard to initiate as a visitor or expatriate.
The highlight of the group is their annual gala. Usually in the spring, this big night raises money for several international charities including, Coeur Des Femmes which is a Paris-based urgency day shelter for women excluded from society. They also raise money for the Women’s Micro-finance Initiative whose mission is to establish village-level loan hubs, administered by local women, to provide capital, training and support services to rural women in the lowest income brackets in East Africa so that they can engage in income-producing activities.
The gala is full of fun activities to raise money for these groups including a live and silent auction, as well as a 2-course dinner, champagne, and of course dancing!Whether you are a visitor or planning to move abroad, this is a great local group to learn more about to feel more like a local and connect with a wonderful group of women.See more on their website here: https://www.awgparis.org/

The Château de Fontainebleau, just 35 miles southeast of central Paris, can proudly claim to have been a sovereign residence for eight centuries. Capétiens, Valois, Bourbons, Bonaparte and Orléans, all members of French ruling dynasties, have lived within these walls. The chateau dates back to 1137—and centuries of royals have expanded this former royal hunting lodge to a more than 1,500-room estate. Most of what you’ll see dates back to the 16th century, a combination of Italian Renaissance art and French design, these rooms are some of the most intricate and breathtaking in France. If times allows, you can enjoy lunch in this charming area.
